In pictures: John Moores Painting Prize

Fontana (Peter McDonald)

Peter McDonald has won the 25th John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize with his work Fontana.

An Ornamental Hermit (Geraint Evans)

Welsh-born artist Geraint Evans won one of four 2,500 runner-up prizes with his piece An Ornamental Hermit.

Hero Worship (Grant Foster)

Grant Foster, another runner-up, used human hair on his oil painting Hero Worship.

Bruegel Camp (Neal Jones)

Neal Jones' aimed for a "muddy balance between the romantic and the realistic", and a representation of modern life, with his work Bruegel Camp.

Special Relativity (Julian Brain).

In Special Relativity, self-taught artist Julian Brain used a surrealistic re-ordering of a domestic scene to represent the experience of adoption.
