In pictures: Drought in a cattle farm

A drought stressed crop

Beverley Rose describes how the drought has affected the landscape she farms. "Drought stressed crops are a common sight - the yellow areas are dying off as a result of lack of moisture and frost damage."

Crop

"When irrigation is available to crops they can look like this."

Ground

"Ground worked up in autumn for barley crop but not sown. Even the weeds haven't been able to thrive in the sparse rainfall."

Paddock

"After the dry winter this paddock has no feed for spring grazing. "

Cattle dam

"This is a picture taken in September of our dry cattle dam. We realised we would have to de-stock and sold off 75% of our beef cattle herd. From November to February there was going to be no water in the irrigation channels, so no water for the cattle. "

Empty farmhouse

"This farmhouse has been empty for a few years, the owner lives several hundred miles away. He sells the water each year and leaves the farm dry."
