Leo Abse was known for his flamboyant dress sense. Here he is on budget day in 1967.
Abse was a Labour MP for nearly 30 years serving constituents in Pontypool and then Torfaen. He wrote political books in his retirement.
He married his artist wife Marjorie Davies in 1955 and they had two children. He re-married in 2000, four years after her death, to Polish artist Ania Czepulkowska.
Abse became a solicitor and founded his practice Leo Abse and Cohen in 1951 in south Wales. It now employs 150 people.
He championed gay rights and was seen as a backbench crusader on social issues.
