Thousands of people have defied a curfew in mainly Muslim Indian-administered Kashmir, a day after a separatist leader and four others were killed in clashes with security forces.
The protests have been some of the biggest since an uprising against Indian rule began nearly 20 years ago. Among the dead was a boy allegedly shot while demonstrating.
Protesters in Srinagar have accused the security forces of over-reacting. Here a man on the ground is seen being kicked by police.
Protesters have also taken to the streets in the mainly-Hindu area of Jammu amid fears the demonstrations - originally over a small piece of land - are assuming more of a communal nature.
Security forces have been firing shots and using tear gas, or in this case a rock, against the stone-throwing demonstrators.
A number of troops and police have been injured in the clashes in the Kashmir valley.
Correspondents say the state is becoming dangerously polarised and the benefits of several years of relative peace are at risk.
Grief-stricken relatives of those killed and injured in the violence wait outside Srinagar's main hospitals.
