Cardiff-born Matthew Rhys has been accepted as a member of the Gorsedd of the Bards at the National Eisteddfod.
Gosesdd means "throne" in Welsh and is made up of musicians, poets, writers, artists, and other distinguished figures.
The Gorsedd of Bards was created in the 17th Century by scholar Iolo Morganwg, and Rhys joins the order of druids.
Rhys, who played 20th Century Welsh poet Dylan Thomas in The Edge of Love, described his elevation in his home city of Cardiff as a "great honour".
Gorsedd members choose a bardic name at their induction: Mathew Rhys becomes Matthew Taf to honour his home city and the River Taff.
