About 400 environmental campaigners took part in a week-long protest at the Camp for Climate Action near Kingsnorth power station, in Kent, opposing plans for a replacement coal-fired unit.

Plane at Manchester Airport

Two planes clipped wings on the taxiway at Manchester Airport on Tuesday. The aircraft, carrying 287 passengers, were bound for Tenerife and Frankfurt.

Queue for Alice in Wonderland audtions

Hundreds of would-be actors joined auditions for a new film production of Alice in Wonderland, by director Tim Burton, at Plymouth's New Continental Hotel on Wednesday.

Ryan Bravo

Ryan Bravo, 18, died after he was shot in the back at a supermarket in Walworth, south east London, on Wednesday. Police said he was an innocent bystander caught in the line of fire.

Hot air balloons were grounded on Friday at Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2008 as weather delayed the 0600 BST mass ascent.
