R Smail and Sons operated as a print works from its Innerleithen base for more than 100 years. Its story is being celebrated as part of an exhibition in Edinburgh

Nowadays the former print works is used to give people an insight into the world of publishing in the 19th and 20th century

A wide range of materials were produced at the Borders works including books, calendars and newspapers

Modern day visitors have the chance to see the old fashioned practices in action

The experience at Smail's is very much "hands-on" with everyone encouraged to try typesetting in the Victorian way
