Silver-studded blue butterfly

On Sunday it emerged that rare silver-studded blue butterflies have made a comeback in Thursley National Nature Reserve, Surrey. The species was in danger after a fire two years ago.

Farnborough Air Show

An Airbus A-380 takes off during a display at the first day of the Farnborough aerospace show on Monday. The world's largest air show opened with executives upbeat about the future of the industry.

Royal garden party

Guests enjoyed themselves at one of this year's Royal Garden Parties hosted by the Queen in the grounds of Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

Ronnie Kray painting

One of seven paintings by gangster Ronnie Kray, which are set to go under the hammer later this month, went on show on Tuesday. They date from the early 1970s when Kray was in prison.

Striking workers

Unison supporters protested on a bus on Wednesday as it passed Parliament. Tens of thousands of of council workers and civil servants took part in a two-day strike over pay.

Beauty queen Janeena Basra, 23, from Leeds, sparked a row on Wednesday after taking the title of Miss Halton Pride in Cheshire. Some locals thought a girl from Runcorn or Widnes should have won.

"Tiger Woods" lambanana

A "Tiger Woods" Lambanana at the Open, in Royal Birkdale, gave golf enthusiasts something to look at on Thursday due to the absence of the real thing.
