A crane has collapsed in New York's Upper East Side killing one person, the second such incident in Manhattan in three months.

The crane crashed into the top floor of a 23-storey block on its way down, at the intersection of East 91st Street and First Avenue.

Witnesses said the entire cab came off the crane, and its main arm hit the building.
