The funeral of 23-year-old Norwegian student Martine Vik Magnussen, found dead in a basement in central London in March, was held in her home country.

Anti fuel tax protestors

St-Martins-in-the-Fields service

A special service was held at the 18th Century St Martin-in-the Field church in Trafalgar Square to mark its reopening following a £36m refurbishment which took two years to complete.

The Abuclesei brothers

Three brothers who tied a man to his bed and left him to die during a robbery were jailed for life. Mohamed Raheem, 28, was found dead at his home in West Norwood, south London, last June.

Fashion students and a senior Met police officer

New Metropolitan Police uniform designs, including a fluorescent cape and trousers that can be adjusted to be worn high or low on the hip, were unveiled as winners of a London College of Fashion competition.

Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson

Conservative Boris Johnson (right) became mayor of London, ending Labour rival Ken Livingstone's eight-year reign. Mr Johnson told voters he would "work flat out to repay and to justify your confidence".
