Conchita, a three-week old mangabey monkey was being hand reared at London Zoo while her mother recovered from a caesarean. The species, native to west Africa, is on the critically endangered list.

Millions of voters headed to the polls for the local elections, held across England and Wales. About 4,000 seats on 159 councils were up for grabs, along with the London mayoralty and London Assembly.

But as the results came in, showing Labour had suffered its worst council results in at least 40 years, Prime Minister Gordon Brown said it had been a "bad and disappointing" election for the party.
