A ship struck by waves during a storm over the Black Sea

A fierce storm with winds of up to 67mph (108kph) has battered the northern shores of the Black Sea, sinking several ships.

A crew member is rescued from the Russian-owned ship Vera Voloshina

Some crew members were rescued by the emergency services, but 20 sailors are still missing.

A sailor from the ship Vera Voloshina was one of those brought safely ashore. The bodies of several sailors were found washed up on beaches.

The storm sunk a tanker causing an important oil spill

The tanker Volganeft-139 sank during the storm, spilling up to 2,000 tons of oil, with another 2,000 still on board.
