In pictures: Captured Pakistani troops

These are three of 48 Pakistani paramilitary troops captured this week in the northern district of Swat. The army sent 2,500 reinforcements there last week.

There is an air of jubilation among the militants, says a BBC correspondent who saw the prisoners.

The troops were shabbily dressed, wearing clothes given to them by the militants.

Swat used to be one of the main tourist areas of Pakistan. Now it is the latest part of the country where militants have been taking control of areas from the military.

The militants are demanding that Sharia law be introduced in Swat. Their leader broadcasts anti-government and anti-Western propaganda on local radio.
