"I was tired after having worked the night shift [at] the Isle of Wight power station," writes Dave Everett. "Next morning, though, I took a few of the remains of Shanklin Pier."
This photo, sent in by Neil, shows an uprooted tree in the grounds of Holy Cross Church, Uckfield. "I was nine at the time. I remember climbing over at least 10 trees."
Holy Cross School, Uckfield, was badly damaged by the Great Storm. Daylight revealed that the hurricane-force winds had ripped its roof off. (Photo sent in by Neil).

"The whole village worked together to clear the roads," says Maurice Shelvin, who took this photo, "although access could still be quite a daunting experience!"
