In pictures: Photographic Portrait Prize

Jonathan Torgovnik's image of Rwandan rape victim Joseline Ingabire and her two daughters has been shortlisted for the Photographic Portrait Prize by the National Portrait Gallery.

David Stewart, who has taken photos for Coca-Cola, American Express and Vodafone adverts, is nominated for this image of his 14-year-old daughter Alice in Morecambe Bay.

Julieta Sans took this picture of her friend Lucila during a visit to her native Argentina. It is part of a project where she recorded the everyday lives of her friends and family.

Michelle Sank photographed Janine in Germany. "At first sight, she seems self-assured and empowered," she says. "Only then is your eye drawn to the scars and scratches on her arm."
