In pictures: Wildfires in Greece

At least 15 people have been killed in southern Greece on the deadliest day of wildfires the country has seen this year.

Firefighters were overwhelmed by the blazes, with at least one dying in the line of duty.

More than 100 separate blazes are raging across the country.

The government declared a state of emergency in the provinces of Lakonia and Messinia.

Residents were pitching in to help extinguish the blazes wherever possible.

The government has called in military aid, with helicopters and troops to join the fight.

The blazes have been fuelled by gale-force winds and temperatures of up to 41C.

Greece has been sweating through a heatwave that has caused wildfires across southern Europe in countries including Italy and Portugal.
