Gunmen loyal to Fatah have stormed the Hamas-controlled Palestinian parliament building in Ramallah in the West Bank.
The deputy speaker, Hassan Khuraishah, an independent, said he had been beaten up when he tried to stop Fatah supporters from putting up one of their flags in the building.
In a show of strength afterwards, the gunmen paraded around Ramallah and fired their weapons into the air.
Fatah supporters also took over the Hamas-controlled legislative council in Nablus.
Palestinian civilians in Hebron continued their calls for a ceasefire between the rival factions.
In the Gaza Strip, where Hamas seized control on Thursday, the situation was calm.
The dismissed Prime Minister, Ismail Haniya, a Hamas leader, called for people to show self-restraint and ordered police to ensure the rule of law.
But despite promises of an amnesty from Hamas, dozens of fearful Fatah supporters fled Gaza via the Erez crossing into Israel.
