In pictures: Building collapse

Part of a building collapsed in Victoria, central London, sparking a major emergency services operation.

BBC News Website reader Chris Bush took this picture of the damage caused, showing parts of the building overhanging the street below.

The building, near New Scotland Yard, was undergoing renovation work.

Around 50 firefighters were called to deal with the incident which happened shortly after 1600 BST.

Onlookers inspect the damage caused by the collapse which happened near the Houses of Parliament.

Masonry caused damaged to vehicles, such as motorcycles and vans, parked below.

Emergency services have so far reported taking one casualty to hospital.

The building was a business centre, where office space is hired by a wide variety of different ventures.
