President George W Bush has made a historic visit to Albania - the first by a serving American leader.
Mr Bush received a hero's welcome in the capital Tirana, where thousands gathered to welcome him.
Some residents of the small Balkan nation even described the US leader as God's messenger.
It seemed that everyone in Tirana - politicians and the public - wanted to celebrate Mr Bush's arrival.
Albania is a close ally in Mr Bush's "war on terror" and hopes the visit will lift its ties with the US and Nato.
Mr Bush again backed the UN plan for Kosovo's independence, saying the time had come to act.
Mr Bush paid tribute to Albania, calling it a nation that had "known tyranny" and overcome it.
