Prince Harry will not serve in Iraq because of the threat to security, it has been announced. However, he had spent many months training for the task.
The prince was one of 270 recruits to start their officer training at Sandhurst in May 2005.
Senior soldiers described the prince, now 22, as an "enthusiastic and capable" officer.
The gruelling 44-week course at Sandhurst included battle training in Cyprus.
Last April, Prince Harry graduated from Sandhurst as an army officer and joined the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals where his rank is referred to as Cornet.
When it was announced earlier this year that the prince would be sent to Iraq, he was said to be "over the moon". He is "very disappointed" that decision has been overturned.
