Thousands of protesters in London have demanded protection for civilians in Darfur as part of a day of global events to mark the fourth anniversary of the start of the Sudan conflict.
Some of them handed a letter into Downing Street which called for an "effective peace-keeping force" in the region.
Fake blood flowed through a two-metre tall hourglass to symbolise that "time was running out" to protect civilians.
Whitehall protests involved a 'Protect Darfur' banner. Organisers said events were taking place in 35 capital cities.
Actor Hugh Grant was among a number of celebrities who helped highlight the day of action.
Fake blood on an hourglass displayed in London represented bloodshed in Darfur. An estimated 200,000 people have been killed in the four-year conflict.
Protest organisers estimated that over 10,000 small hourglasses would be symbolically turned over worldwide.
