Executive producer Akitoshi Kawazu and Hiroshi Minagawa, game director, were in London for the European launch of the Final Fantasy XII video game.

Hundreds of fans came to the launch event at the HMV store in London hoping to meet the game's producers and get a signed copy of the game.

Mr Kawazu said Final Fantasy XII was the best game he had worked on for the PlayStation 2 which made fullest use of the console's abilities.

Fans of the game came dressed as their favourite characters and were delighted when Mr Kawazu raised the possibility of producing Final Fantasy VII for PlayStation 3.

Kevin Phoenix came from Cambridge dressed as the character Cactor from previous Final Fantasy games.

Emily Bastion, who came as Yuffie from Final Fantasy VII, said: "My friends say I have the same personality as Yuffie - a selfish, double-crossing thief, which is nice!"

Lulu from Final Fantasy X aka Nottingham University student Lina Lau (l) spent 90 hours making her costume. El Angeles (c) added: "Conventions are a great excuse for costumes."

Priscilla Cho (l) said she had heard good things about Final Fantasy XII from American members of her online guild.

Becca Chandler as Yuna from Final Fantasy X

Animation student, Becca Chandler, said she was inspired by the games and wanted to work on role-playing games when she graduated.

Mr Minagawa said he had been nervous about making changes to the game's battle system but was touched by the fans' acceptance of Final Fantasy XII.
