In pictures: India's Republic Day

A grand parade was held in India's capital, Delhi, to mark the country's 58th Republic Day.

Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the parade as the guest of honour. A number of deals have been sealed during Mr Putin's two-day visit to India.

Soldiers of the Sikh regiment stood out with their colourful turbans.

Camel-mounted cavalrymen led a colourful procession on Rajpath - the King's Avenue - in the heart of the city.

The parade displays India's military power and tanks and missiles, mounted on trucks, are shown off.

Hundreds of schoolchildren also participated in the parade.
