In pictures: Berlin in lights

Thirty of Berlin's most famous landmarks are illuminated in a two-week Festival of Lights.

Berliners and tourists take in the view of the Brandenburg Gate. The lighting was designed by Andreas Boehlke.

The Berliner Dom, the German capital's Baroque Protestant cathedral, is draped in blue and gold...

...and then in a more garish colour scheme.

The Siegessaule (victory column) in the city's Tiergarten is turned a regal purple.

Fireworks explode around the 368m (1,214ft) TV tower at the opening of the festival, which runs until 29 October.
