Kirk and Deela

As Star Trek celebrates its 40th anniversary, we look back at some classic images from the series. In this picture, Captain Kirk is captured by Deela, Queen of the Scalosians.

Mr Spock

Spock is infected by spores which induce feelings of peace and harmony, but render him incapable of managing any productive behaviour.

Kirk and Uhura kiss

Captain Kirk is forced to embrace Lieutenant Uhura by the rulers of the planet Platonius. It is believed to be the first inter-racial kiss broadcast on US television.

The Animated Series

The 1970's series Star Trek: The Animated Adventures saw most of the Star Trek crew reunited as voice actors.

Starship Enterprise

The Starship Enterprise was refitted for the first Star Trek film in 1979.

The Borg

The crew of the Next Generation were the first to encounter the Borg in an episode called Q Who?

Captain Picard is assimilated

Captain Jean-Luc Picard, played by Patrick Stewart, was later abducted and surgically mutilated by the Borg, becoming an entity known as Locutus of Borg.

Captain Sisko

Captain Benjamin Sisko from the series Deep Space Nine witnesses the destruction of the spaceship Saratoga, which kills his wife.

Quark

Actor Armin Shimmerman had to endure two hours in the make-up chair every day to be transformed into his character, Ferengi barman Quark.

Star Trek: Voyager

Captain Janeway and security officer Tuvok watch a 3D movie aboard the Starship Voyager.

Captain Jonathan Archer
