Tribal leader Nawab Akbar Bugti has been buried in Pakistan's Balochistan province. He was killed last Saturday in a military raid.
Security personnel outnumbered mourners at the funeral in the tribal chief's home town of Dera Bugti.
No family members were present among tribal members at the ceremony - in protest at restrictions by the authorities.
The family did not identify the remains - but officials say they are in no doubt the body was Bugti's. Items said to belong to him were displayed to the media.
There was heavy security in towns and cities across Balochistan after days of unrest.
Protesters angry at the killing took to the streets in the north-western city of Peshawar.
A strike was also held in Karachi. Here children play around a pile of burning tyres during the protest.
Bugti died during a military assault on his mountain hideout. The military says it dug his body out on Thursday.
