In pictures: Hurricane John

Mexico's Pacific resorts are on alert as a Hurricane John moves north-west, parallel to the coastline.

A hurricane warning is in effect along 400 miles (640km) of the Pacific coast.

The hurricane has weakened slightly to a category three storm.

But tourist resorts have still been lashed by strong winds and heavy downpours.

Forecasters are predicting that the hurricane could still turn inland.

Residents are being advised to move away from the area for their own safety.
