The blast happened at about 1000 local time (0600 GMT), when the market was packed with traders and shoppers.
In Baghdad's Karrada district, several police officers were injured when a device exploded at the scene of an earlier blast.
Several vehicles also exploded in towns north and south of Baghdad, causing widespread carnage.
In Burhiz, the mangled remains of a vehicle lay in the street after a device blew up by the side of the road.
The attacks were the latest in a week of violence in Iraq, which has claimed dozens of lives since the weekend.
