A reveller puts on a happy face on Notting Hill Carnival's opening day - traditionally a chance for children to dress up.
More than a million people are expected to visit the event throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.
The multi-cultural event is now in its 42nd year. About 200,000 people were expected to attend on Sunday.
Children's Day attracts hundreds of young people and families to its festive parades.
The carnival brings a feast of colourful costumes and music to the west London streets.
But it proved thirsty work for one young, colourfully-dressed, child.
