The cream of the online world gathered in New York on Monday night for the 10th annual Webby Awards ceremony, hosted by comic Rob Corddry.
Among the winners in more than 65 categories was Dr Robert Kahn for his work in the mid 1970s developing the protocols that underlie the workings of the internet.
Each winner gave an acceptance speech of five words or less. "Darlings, make blog, not war," said Arianna Huffington, picking up the award for best political blog.
Prince picked up a lifetime achievement gong for being the first major artist to release his 1997 album, Crystal Ball, exclusively online, saying "You think. It's true".
Webby founder Tiffany Shlain spoke about how the web has grown in size and importance in the 10-year history of the awards ceremony.
