The fire on Upton Heath, which began on Saturday afternoon, was spotted by a Dorset Police helicopter patrol team
Flames raged across the Dorset landscape, destroying 15 hectares (37 acres) of wildlife habitat
About 80 firefighters in 15 engines and 10 land rovers battled the blaze throughout Saturday afternoon and evening
The raging flames threatened peoples' homes and properties. This picture was taken at the end of Beacon Road.
At one point police feared four properties, including this one, were at risk and residents were evacuated
Police said the blaze started near the Beacon Hill landfill site and swept towards the A350 and A35
It is feared the fire, which could be seen for miles around, destroyed the natural habitat of many wild animals and plants
Police said they had begun an investigation into the cause of the blaze
Fire crews brought the flames under control at about 2000 BST but remained through the night to dampen the area down
