In pictures: Protests in Nepal

Hundreds of people have marched in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, to protest against King Gyanendra's rule.

For the second day in a row, protesters violated strict curfew orders in taking to the streets. They attacked riot police with stones, who responded by doing the same.

Police were authorised to open fire on protesters. Here, they use tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Protesters run through the haze of tear gas in Kathmandu. In other Nepalese towns, at least three people have been killed by police gunfire since Saturday.

The UN has criticised Nepalese authorities for their clampdown on the protesters.

Opposition parties have said they will continue protesting. King Gyanendra has called for calm.
