In pictures: Thracian riches

Thracian riches are buried in ancient mounds across Bulgaria. Excavations have helped add colour to the history books.

The tomb of what is thought to be a Thracian king found near Zlatinitsa included two horses and a dog.

The artefacts were intricately decorated with scenes of Greek mythology, giving clues to the man's identity.

The pottery and artefacts, often featuring animals, helped date the burial to around 360-370 BC.

Professor Bojidar Dimitrov, of Bulgaria's National Museum of History, says the man was a young ruler in his prime.

It is not known how he died or exactly who he is, but researchers will continue to examine the clues.
