The streets of Zanzibar are rocking to the sounds of the Sauti za Busara (Sounds of Wisdom) Swahili Music Festival - kicked off by the Beni ya Polisi band.
Their music worked its magic and infectious dancing broke out on the streets of Stone Town.
The four-day festival is regarded as East Africa's finest annual musical extravaganza and attracts thousands of Zanzibaris every year.
The turnout was especially large for Sinachuki Kidumbak who are popular for their traditional Zanzibari dance music.
While the women danced this violinist sat, playing and singing.
Tanzania's successful Afro-pop queen, Jaydee, was the biggest act on opening night on Thursday.
Boys and girls from Jang'ombe Nursery School were a highlight too, performing traditional Zanzibari archipelago dances.
Zanzibar's street traders hope the festival's success will be reflected in their profit margins.
