In Pictures: How the art was hidden

The paintings were driven in secret convoys from London to Gwynedd in the early 1940s

Once there, they were transported through long tunnels, deep inside the mine

Some of the pieces of art dated back to the 13th Century and required delicate handling

Each of the 2,000 works was packed and housed individually

These frames were constructed to keep the paintings in perfect condition
