Thousands of mourners gathered in Manila on Tuesday for the funeral of Roman Catholic Cardinal Jaime Sin.
Cardinal Sin's coffin, draped in the Philippines' flag, was paraded on a horse-drawn carriage and given a 21-gun salute.
Political and military leaders, including President Gloria Arroyo, were among the dignitaries.
The cardinal, an influential figure in the mostly Catholic Philippines, died last week at the age of 76.
Filipino and foreign bishops filed past the casket as it lay inside the cathedral.
Cardinal Sin, although conservative in his beliefs, was a very popular figure.
Mourners, many of whom wept during the service, later released doves in his honour.
