In pictures: India flood stampede

At least 42 people have died in a stampede for flood relief aid in the southern Indian city of Madras (Chennai).

The stampede happened outside a school which was being used as a centre to distribute relief coupons. (Pic: RS Kumar)

The accident occurred when at least 3,000 people in a queue surged to get into the centre after a downpour began. (Pic: RS Kumar)

Most of the victims were reportedly women in the front of the queue.

Some 37 people, who were injured in the incident, have been admitted to various city hospitals.
