Thousands of people have been taking part in anti-Japanese rallies in China.
The protesters are angry about a new Japanese history textbook said to play down wartime atrocities.
The rallies have also been fuelled by anger at the prospect of Japan possibly obtaining a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
Demonstrations have been taking place in Beijing and in a number of large cities across China.
In some instances, protesters have clashed with police.
Some protesters have called for a boycott of Japanese goods.
The Japanese embassy in Beijing was also targeted, prompting anger and concern in Tokyo.
