Dame Elizabeth Taylor was among the stars honoured by Bafta/LA at a party in California. Master of ceremonies Craig Ferguson called her "a towering beauty".
Sir Anthony Hopkins was at the awards to honour Tom Cruise, saying the US actor had a "boundless energy and life force".
British director Mike Newell was also an award recipient. His screen credits include the fourth Harry Potter film, Donnie Brasco and Four Weddings and a Funeral.
British TV star Cilla Black travelled to the US to take part in the celebration.
The Office star Lucy Davis has relocated to the US to try her luck in Hollywood. She has landed a role in the Garfield 2 film.
Lucy Davis can take inspiration from Jane Leeves, who carved out her acting career in the US, finding fame in TV series Frasier.
Among other British actors attending the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel was Joely Richardson, who stars in TV series Nip/Tuck.
Poseidon Adventure director and Bafta founder Ronald Neame was also honoured with a special award. He said US companies were better at backing UK films than the British government.
