Alicia Keys and a host of stars gathered in Los Angeles on Wednesday to celebrate the 25th anniversary of network Black Entertainment Television (BET).

Whitney Houston made a rare public appearance, having had two stints in a rehabilitation clinic this year.

MC Hammer put on a show for the crowd, with a quick flash of the fancy footwork that brought him to fame.

Nelly chose to wear considerably less clothing than MC Hammer to show off his bling to maximum effect.

Snoop Dogg was joined on stage by funk legend George Clinton to wish BET a happy anniversary.

The audience paid tribute to BET founder and chairman Bob Johnson.

There was also a tribute to civil rights icon Rosa Parks, who died the day before the ceremony at the age of 92.
