John and Jackie Knill pose for a photo during their holiday in Thailand. The last series of photos on their digital camera, taken on 26 December tells the story of their fate.
The Canadian couple were on a beach in Khao Lak when they caught tourists on camera, oblivious to the approaching tsunami.
"I don't know why they didn't run," their son Christian told Canadian TV. "Either they knew they couldn't or they didn't know the power of the wave."
The mass of water looms behind a person on the beach. The camera showed the time as 0830.
Mr and Mrs Knill were both swept away by the waves. Their bodies were later discovered. So was their camera, with the memory card intact.
The couple's family in Vancouver had been dreading the news. Mr Knill's sister Terri and brother-in-law Roy Maguire had appealed for information about their loved ones.
