Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres hosted the show for a second time. Although she paid tribute to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the majority of the show was kept light-hearted and humorous.

Matthew Fox and wife Margherita Ronchi

Matthew Fox, pictured with wife Margherita Ronchi, plays hero doctor Jack in ABC hit Lost. The show went on to win best drama on the night.

Hugh Laurie

Hugh Laurie was flying the flag for British talent, nominated for his role as an eccentric doctor in House. He lost to James Spader for Boston Legal.

S Epatha Merkerson and Halle Berry

S Epatha Merkerson celebrated her win for best actress in a TV movie/miniseries for Lackawanna Blues with Halle Berry. During the ceremony she lost her acceptance speech down the front of her dress, where she had stored it.

Deborah Messing

Debra Messing was at the ceremony to support her sitcom Will and Grace. The comedy was nominated in 15 categories but eventually left empty-handed.

Tony Shalhoub and James Spader
