In pictures: Gay pride on parade

Tens of thousands of people have travelled to Manchester for the bank holiday weekend's gay pride celebrations

The parade was awash with all the colours of the rainbow

Dozens of floats represented businesses, public services and community groups. This float was for Body Positive North West, the region's oldest HIV/Aids support group, which is currently under threat because of a cut to its funding

Christmas arrived early for some participants in the parade

The gay and lesbian members of all of the emergency services, including the fire service, were represented on the parade

The Manchester Pride parade took a couple of hours to snake through the city centre

The parade is the highlight of Manchester's Pride festival

Some of the floats carried important messages. This display, part of a health trust's float, warned people of the dangers of sexually transmitted infections
