The cast of hit series Desperate Housewives assembled to claim their favourite new television drama award.

Ex-Friends star Matt LeBlanc picked up a People's Choice Award after spin-off series Joey was named favourite new television comedy series.

Will Smith

I, Robot star Will Smith was named favourite male action star, telling the audience: "I've got to look right, my mom is watching."

Will and Grace stars Eric McCormack (left), Debra Messing, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes took the prize for best television comedy series.

Mike Myers

Shrek 2 took three awards - favourite comedy, top animated movie and favourite sequel. Its prizes were collected by voice actor and Austin Powers star Mike Myers.

Ellen DeGeneres

Comedian Ellen DeGeneres beat Oprah Winfrey to the favourite daytime talk show host title for The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She was also named top female comedy star.

cast of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

Long-running show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was named top television drama series, with members of its cast and crew collecting the prize.


Musician Prince, who became North America's most lucrative live performer of 2004, was one of numerous celebrities to present awards.

Pop stars Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey wrestle with the reality show award won by their series Newlyweds. Winners of the People's Choice Awards were chosen by 21 million online voters.
