5 of 9 Agatha Christie was among the original residents at Wells Coates's Isokon building in Belsize Park, London. A major conservation has upgraded the building for 21st Century living. Most residents are now key workers in shared ownership schemes.

6 of 9 Norman Foster's HQ for McLaren in Woking, Surrey accommodates design studios, research areas and production facilities for the company's Formula One cars. A concealed visitor centre is located in a separate building.

7 of 9 The Classroom of the Future is for special needs pupils at Mossbrook School, Sheffield. Architect Sarah Wigglesworth has included a series of interactive elements, such the use of webcams on a nature reserve linked to plasma screens.

8 of 9 The Orangery at Great Ormond Street Hospital comprises a boiler house roof, flanked on one side by a coffee shop and on the other by the staff canteen. The brief was to provide an area that would be different from a "normal" hospital.

9 of 9 The Scottish Parliament was the costliest project selected by RIBA. The jury said the ability of both the design and construction teams to realise a building of this complexity was "truly remarkable".
