of 7 In the run-up to the Olympic Games, BBC One's Animal Games proved to be a big hit with viewers. "Athletes" from the mammal, fish, bird, herptile (reptiles and amphibians) and insect worlds competed in human events.
of 7 All competitors were scaled to human size to allow them to compete against each other. Here the Rhinoceros beetle uses all his strength to lift the weights.
of 7 The Bushbaby competed against a flea, a maggot, a bird (disqualified for flying) and a salmon in the high jump.
of 7 The high-jump was raised so high it reached above the level of the stadium.
of 7 The long jump proved embarrassing for the penguin, which reached only 6m, less than the mudskipper (pictured).
of 7 The Archer fish lived up to its name by hitting the bulls eye with a water spout from its mouth. Other competitors shot from other bodily orifices, which proved hazardous for the spectators, made up from across the animal kingdom.
of 7 Watched by 4.1m television viewers, the six Olympic events were held in a volcano which split open to reveal a swimming pool for the freestyle event.
