Lembit Opik MP: 'IQ challenge'
"Whether they use the word independence or full national status to describe their objectives, people will only understand the meaning if they explain how current British institutions will be affected."

The Liberal Democrat MP challenged Plaid Cymru the Party of Wales to answer 10 points, which include:

  • Whether Welsh viewers will no longer be eligible to receive BBC programmes paid for by a British license fee;

  • whether there will be a separate Post Office Company for Wales;

  • whether there will there be a separate DVLA, Benefits Agency, Customs and Excise, Passport Agency.

    Lib Dem Assembly Member Jenny Randerson said: "BBC programmes, NHS pensions, immigration services and driving licences are just some of many services best delivered to common standards across Britain.

    "What exactly does full national status mean for the future of British-run public services?" she asked.
