New leader for Plaid Cymru
Ieuan Wyn Jones
Ieuan Wyn Jones: Hoping to take Plaid to a new level
Plaid Cymru's annual conference, which gets under way on 21 September, is the first under the leadership of Ieuan Wyn Jones.

Mr Jones won the vote to lead the party earlier this year when previous party president Dafydd Wigley stood down on health grounds.

In 1999, Plaid enjoyed its most successful year ever - winning 17 of the 60 seats in the National Assembly for Wales - and becoming the main opposition party in the new body.

There has been much brave talk in Plaid Cymru about forming the next government in Wales, but the party will not get the chance to prove that for some years.

In the meantime, Plaid face a tough task in the next general election, as the party's performance in Westminster elections has never matched its recent success at the all-Wales level of the assembly.

BBC News Online will bring you news reports and live coverage from the conference.
