Grand National course dries up

Aintree: Spared the worst of the UK's bad weather
The going for the Grand National has been changed to good to soft, good in places, with dry weather forecast for the rest of the week.

But the Aintree course was spared the worst of the rain, snow and gales that assailed the rest of the country on Monday night.

There is a good covering of grass at Aintree and it is very safe ground ... I would imagine it will ride faster by Saturday

Micky Hammond, trainer

The lack of precipitation in the area led the clerk of the course Ian Renton to ask for selective watering on the Mildmay and Hurdles courses. Both of them are graded as good.

Rune Haugen, trainer of the highly-fancied Norwegian ride Trinitro said he was very happy with the course after walking it on Tuesday.

"The course is fantastic, in really good condition and just right for Trinitro," he said.

The fences are just right for Trinitro

"The fences are not as big as I thought they would be and I think they were will be fine for Trinitro. He is a proper jumper and loves his jumping."

Middleham trainer Micky Hammond also examined the course before going racing in Newcastle.

"For a horse that likes goodish ground the conditions are perfect," he said.
