Germany's campaign team
'Der Kaiser' Franz Beckenbauer

Franz Beckenbauer, the chairman of the German World Cup bid committee, has truly done it all.

He has a unique record in international football, being the only man to have played and managed World Cup winning sides.

His win as a player came in 1974 when he captained Germany to victory on home soil, while as a manager he first took Germany to the final in 1986 when they lost to Argentina, but reversed the result against the same opponents in 1990.

Beckenbauer, nicknamed 'Der Kaiser', also appeared in the World Cup final against England in 1966, ironically man-marking Bobby Charlton, one of the men he is up against in this campaign, and led Germany to the European Championship in 1972.

His record at club level is no less impressive, winning the league and cup four times in Germany and the European Cup on three successive occasions with Bayern Munich.

He was also named European footballer of the year in 1972 and 1976.

Beckenbauer is an old hand at world football politics and is tipped as a future president of Fifa.

Beckenbauer has been assisted in his duties by another old German legend in the shape of Gunter Netzer.
